We go on to test out the performance of this card with relation to the rest
of the family. The more important comparision would be between this card and
2 other cards, the 6800 GT and 6800 Standard. Afterall, this card is meant to
fill up the gap between this 2 cards.
AMD Athlon 64 FX57 2.8GHz
|Motherboard||DFI LAN Party UT nF4 SLI-DR|
|Memory||2 x 512MB GSkill FF with Samsung TCCD chips|
NVIDIA 6800 GS 256MB (425/1000Mhz)
|Power Supply||HEC 580w|
|Storage||Seagate Barracuda 100GB PATA Hard Disk|
* Forceware 81.87 drivers was used for the tests with the 6800GS and
81.85 for the rest of the compared boards. There is very little performance
difference between the 2, with 81.87 as more of an update to include support
for the 6800 GS.
We take a look at 3D Mark 2003 and 2005 performance first.
If we go by 3D Mark performance, we can see that the 6800 GS is actually very
close to the 6800 GT. In 3D Mark 03, the 6800 GS is only less than 1000 points
slower, and in the extremely fillrate intensive 3D Mark 05, the higher core
clock on the 6800 GS (85Mhz higher than the GT) helps it surpass the GT by 18
points even though it comes with 4 lesser pieplines.
