NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Benchmarked

Reported by on Wednesday, September 1 2010 5:08 pm

An XtremeSystems forum member has leaked a set of benchmarks for both Nvidia's reference GTS 450, as well as an overclocked ASUS GTS 450 TOP running at an incredible 925 MHz core, nearly 20% above the stock 783 MHz. The benchmarks leaked are Call of Juarez, Crysis, Far Cry 2, Unigine Heaven and World in Conflict. The vanilla GTS 450 is exactly where it is rumoured to be, somewhere between the Radeon HD 5750 and HD 5770. More details next page...

In Call of Juarez, the GTS 450 ends up behind the HD 5770. However, the heavily overclocked ASUS GTS 450 TOP slightly edges out the HD 5770 in most situations. Crysis, still arguably the toughest test for a GPU, however, is a different proposition. Both the GTS 450s crumble in this test, and are left in the dust by the HD 5770. The HD 5770 is as much as 40% faster across the board in Crysis. The tables are turned in Far Cry 2, which seems to largely prefer the GF10x architecture. With AA enabled, the GTS 450 edges out the HD 5770. However, with AA turned down and resolutions increased, the HD 5770 still sneaks past the GTS 450. The GTS 450 TOP continues to be fastest of the three. Unigine Heaven, like Far Cry 2, is the one of the other benchmarks which heavily prefers the Nvidia architecture. The gap is minimal, with the GTS 450 less than 5% faster than the HD 5770. In World in Conflict, all three cards are relatively evenly matched.

On average, we would expect the GTS 450 to slot in between the HD 5750 and the HD 5770 in terms of performance. However, with Nvidia planning to price it at $130, it ends up being a competitor to the HD 5750, with potentially better performance on average. The heavily overclocked versions like the ASUS GTS 450 TOP could be priced against the HD 5770. However, unfortunately for Nvidia, AMD is preparing to release the Radeon HD 6700 series only one month after the GTS 450's release.
