Nvidia's Kepler, although arriving much later to the 28nm game, has proven itself to be a credible competitor to the Southern Islands offerings of AMD, excelling in mainstream gaming performance and energy efficiencies. What happens if you take the already cut-down 7 SMX units in the GK104 die of GTX 670 and further curtail its memory bandwidth? Well, we get a still surprisingly strong GTX 660Ti that can take on the big boys when overclocked.

The first GTX 660Ti that we will be reviewing at VR-Zone.com is Gigabyte's Windforce OC Edition 2GB, which has a different cooler and a slight overclock over the usual reference blower offerings.

Like the earlier GTX 670, the GTX 660Ti uses a cut down die with one disabled SMX unit. One of its four memory controllers have also been disabled, giving it an effective 192-bit GDDR5 bus for transfers.

 

Our review sample came in a box without any accessories or documentation. We expect the retail bundle to be less spartan.

 

Like the other recent Keplers, the GTX660Ti retains the same I/O configuration, with two DVI ports augmented by a HDMI and DisplayPort connector. Nvidia's 3D Surround technology is also supported.

 

Gigabyte's Windforce card uses a custom blue 2oz copper PCB, and measures 10-inches long with the HSF.

 

Although the TDP is rated at a small form factor friendly 150W, Gigabyte decided to give the card some power headroom for overclocking by including 2 x 6-pin PCIe (meaning 225W including PCIe slot power).
