nVidia GTX 780 Specifications

nVidia GTX 780 Titan nVidia GTX 770 and GTX780 specifications detailed

  • GK110 Chipset
  • 2304 FP32 (Floating Point) Cuda Cores
  • 7.1 Billion Transistors
  • 863 MHz Core Clock (Base), 900 MHz Turbo
  • 3 GB GDDR5 Memory
  • 384-bit wide Memory Interface
  • 1.5 GHz Memory Clock Speed (6 GHz QDR)
  • 6+8 Pin PCI-Express Power Connectors
  • 250W TDP
  • 551 mm^2 Die Size
  • TSMC 28 nm Manufacturing Process

The upcoming GTX 780 flagship is based on the same piece of silicon as the mighty GTX Titan GPU released by nVidia a couple of months ago. Buyers of the (costly) Titan GPU need not worry, as the GTX 780 is one notch down in performance. Titan will remain a separate brand for the highest end GPU offering by nVidia (at insane prices). There are reports of a higher end Titan SKU with all Cuda Cores enabled, which should make an appearance later this year.

Compared to the GTX Titan, nVidia's flagship GTX 780 will have one nVidia SMX disabled (that's one more than the Titan which already has one 1 SMX disabled). All 48 ROPs are are enabled and bandwidth remains untouched. Surprisingly, despite being a cut down, chip power consumption remains the same with a 250W TDP. That may sound like a lot but keep in mind, this GPU packs 7.1 billion transistors. VRAM does take a cut down from 6 GB to 3 GB (we hardly think that's going to change gaming performance much). The GTX 780 is expected to end up 20-25% faster than AMD's current flagship HD 7970 GHz edition, and should end up launching on 23rd May with a price tag north of $599.

nVidia GTX 770 Specifications

nVidia GTX 770 nVidia GTX 770 and GTX780 specifications detailed

  • GK104 Chipset
  • 1536 Cuda Cores
  • 3.5 Billion Transistors
  • 1046 MHz Core Clock (Base),1085 MHz Turbo
  • 2 or 4 GB GDDR5 Memory
  • 256-bit wide Memory Interface
  • 1.75 GHz Memory Clock Speed (7 GHz QDR)
  • 6+8 Pin PCI-Express Power Connectors
  • 230W TDP
  • 294 mm^2 Die Size
  • TSMC 28 nm Manufacturing Process

The GTX 770 is a much smaller chip compared to the GTX 780 (or Titan). With a die size of just 294 mm^2 and 3.5 billion transistors, we are looking at nearly half of a fully enabled Titan chip. Thankfully that doesn't translate to half the performance, as the GK104 chipset manages to impress. The reports say that the GTX 770 should end up about 10-20% faster than the HD 7970 GHz Edition, which isn't that far away from the projected performance of the flagship GTX 780 GPU. The new SKU is essentially a rebrand (hopefully a slightly tweaked and improved version) of last year's GTX 680 flagship.

Pricing is expected to be around the $450-500 range, which is pretty much the price point at which GTX 680 was launched. The GTX 770 is scheduled to launch on May 30th, which is exactly one week after the launch of the news flagship GTX 780 GPU.
