NVIDIA has reported financial results for their Q3 FY2012, for the period Aug 1st 2011 to Oct 31st 2011. Compared to the previous quarter, revenue increased by 5% to $1.07 billion, with net income up by 17% to $178.3 million. That is also more than double net income compared to Q3 FY2011.

Gross margins were up to 52.2%, from 46.5% in the same period last year. In addition to some major Tegra 2 design wins - particularly in the Android tablet market - President & CEO Jen-Hsun Huang reported strong demand by gamers and the professional market. As expected, the mobile business also accelerated significantly with strong demand for Optimus enabled GPUs tied to weak Sandy Bridge graphics.

Looking forward to Q4 FY 2012, or the period from Nov 1st 2011 to Jan 31st 2012, NVIDIA expects revenue and gross margins to be flat. This quarter will, of course, see the release of Tegra 3 and the first GeForce 600 family GPUs.
