7900 GTX, which goes by the code-name of G71, takes the 7800GTX
architecture and puts it on a smaller 90nm die.

On top of the die shrink, the 7900 GTX also improves architecturally
over the 7800 GTX in terms of cache performance and other slight enhancements
to improve overall efficiency. Of course, with the die shrink, the clock speed
gets a bump upwards.

We took the chance to ask Tony Tamasi about the dual core
optimizations in the newer drivers and what exactly they do with the second
core. He was nice enough to reveal a bit about this and shared about how the
compilation process after the 3D rendering done by the graphics card is carried
out by the CPU. So the dual-core optimized drivers make use of both cores
instead of only one core to compile these.
