Olympus TG-5 brings back the Tough

Back before action cameras became trendy there was only one company who made cameras tough enough for you to take on your outdoor adventures, one that could handle the hard knocks, water immersion and dust. That company is of course Olympus, who have now launched their Tough TG-5, the latest rugged camera favoured for years by outdoors-men and adrenaline junkies.

But being tough isn’t enough these days, which is why the Tough TG-5 comes with the same Field Sensor system used in the Olympus TG-Tracker, a suite of sensors that not only records and tracks GPS data, but also compass, temperature and air pressure (for height above ground).

The TG-5 comes with a new 12-megapixel CMOS sensor paired with a 4x optical zoom f2.0 lens and the TruePic VIII image processor, the same processor found on the brand’s flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II model – this makes the TG-5 capable of very fast continuous shooting at 20 fps as well as capture 4K video at 30fps. And of course it’s a Tough – which means it’s waterproof down to 15 metres, able to handle being dropped 2.1 metres onto concrete and left in a -10°C fridge!

The Olympus Tough TG-5 will be available in June in either black or red and a range of accessories. Price to be announced.
