Oppo isn’t big outside of China, but that hasn’t stopped the handset maker from designing sleek smartphones that deserve some attention.
A leaked image of Oppo’s next smartphone is hinting that the company is aiming to reclaim the title of “world’s thinnest smartphone”. The source of the leak reported that the Oppo “R809T” measures just 6.13mm thick, that’s over 1mm less than Apple’s so called world's thinnest smartphone—the iPhone 5.
Disappointing as this may sounds, the Oppo R809T will come with Mediatek’s MT6589 quad-core. While the Taiwan-based chip maker’s offering is respectable in terms of bang for your bucks, equipping a handset with a MT6589 automatically downgrades the class of the device. The R809T could be a top tier handset if it was bred to have lean muscle along with its baby smooth skin.
Whatever gripes we may have about the processor, however, won’t take away from some of the other core components as the Oppo R809T will come with a 4.5-inch 720p display, and 1GB of RAM. True to the mid-range specs mantra, the thin Oppo handset will be priced at about $405 without a contract. Again, Oppo is very limited in its markets reach and chances are the R809T won’t make it to many markets outside of the Asian regions.
The Oppo R809T is rumored to launch at the end of April, 2013.
