Origin now offers full 24-hour refund on all EA titles
After giving away beloved AAA titles for practically nothing in the recent Humble Origin Bundle, Electronic Arts (EA) has now announced that it will offer a full refund on all its games purchased through Origin.
The refunds are a part of EA’s “Origin Great Game Guarantee,” a policy that will see the infamous game developer and publisher give full refunds on EA-published Windows PC or Mac games. “If something doesn’t work out — you aren’t riveted by the storyline, or sucked in by the action, or even just if the game doesn’t play well with your video card — we’ve got your back,” EA promises.
The terms are simple and surprisingly few – you must apply for a refund within 24 hours after the first launch of the game, within seven days from when it was purchased, or within the first seven days from the game’s release date if it was pre-ordered from the digital storefront. Once approved, the refunds will take anywhere from seven to ten days, though third-party games or additional content like DLC won’t be eligible, something that EA will clearly communicate to the consumer.
The new policy makes Origin the only game distribution platform that has an actually usable refund policy, giving players the chance to return a game if they don’t find it satisfactory instead of ruing their purchase. EA hasn’t exactly been a favorite among gamers (okay, they’ve probably been the worst of all publishers), but with the recent charitable Humble Bundle and now the refund policy, EA might just salvage some of its poor reputation.
Good move, EA. Good move.
