After failing to gain a foothold in the European smartphone décor, Panasonic has been forced to take a step back, regroup and focus once again solely on the friendlier Asian environment. The Japanese don’t seem keen to win the high-end battle around those parts either, instead unveiling mostly budget devices.

The latest such gadgets to see daylight are the P11 and T11, both set to go on sale in India in the next few weeks. The two have been made official sans much glamour and glitz, being simply listed as “coming soon” on the popular Flipkart online store.

The more technically impressive fellow of the duo, the P11, seems to be a very sensible budget option for phablet fans. Sporting a large but not exactly ultra-crisp 5-inch 720p display, the thing blends elegance, style, functionality and mid-end speed all into one package.

Though it’s not exactly a featherweight and weighs in at a “generous” 160 grams, the P11 looks fairly snazzy, with slim bezels and swappable back covers. Under the hood there’s a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (most likely a MediaTek unit), plus 1 GB of RAM, but only 4 GB of storage.

Fret not however, as you do get microSD support, as well as a “healthy” 8 MP rear camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2,000 mAh battery, 3G connectivity and dual SIM support. And all that for the low price of Rs. 16,690 ($278). Not bad, eh?

Well, the T11 is an entirely different kettle of fish, most likely having but one ace up its sleeve – pricing. The thing is we don’t know exactly how much the 4-incher will cost, so for the time being we can just list its specs and… be appalled of them.

Okay, maybe “appalled” is a strong word, but we can’t really be delighted to see a smartphone “rocking” a 480 x 800 pix res screen, 5 MP camera, 1,500 mAh battery and 4 GB of on-board storage in this day and age. And the bezels, oh my god those bezels!

On the bright side, the T11 does run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out the box, plus it packs a quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. Which makes the list of features acceptable on the whole… provided the phone will be priced at Rs. 10,000 tops.
