The patent war between electronics giants Samsung and Apple have dominated headlines for quite a while now, but it seems that a new development might cause a big impact to the entire Android ecosystem - Taiwanese handset maker HTC may face a import ban in the US market due to technologies which infringe on Apple’s patents.

Specifically, the said patent states of a  “system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data”. An example is the ability to search and highlight a contact number on a website which is opened from the web browser of the mobile device, which can then be followed by a tap to make a phone call to that number. 

Another infringement details a “real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data”, which is frankly, all encompassing in modern day tele-communications.

If the ban is passed by a six-member panel at the International Trade Commission in Washington next week, HTC will take a big beating of its holiday sales, which will hit the company’s market share.

The rest of the (Android) industry can only hope for a major patent reform movement by the Obama administration soon...
