Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

05 Phanteks PH TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

Much like the picture suggests the PH-TC14PE is a dual tower "sandwich" cooler design of massive proportions, measuring more than 17cm tall and 16cm wide with cooling fans installed and, with a weight of 1.25kg, the massive cooler clearly requires a relatively spacious case to begin with. On the top fin of each tower, Phanteks embossed their company logo and sprayed the fin with glossy, reflective paint.

The rest of the fins however are not simply sprayed with paint or even anodized; Phanteks is using a proprietary technology called Physical Antioxidant Thermal Shield (P.A.T.S.) to dye the surface of the fins which, in layman's terms, is a selective paint which allows the fins to radiate heat at very high rates but, at the same time, limits the heat absorbed from the thermal radiation of other components. This allowed the company to offer the cooler in a variety of 5 colors, which colors are silver, blue, black, red and orange (seriously, orange).

08 Phanteks PH TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

Phanteks jagged the colored fins of the PH-TC14PE in an effort to reduce air turbulence and noise along with it. The fins are bent and interconnected, which vastly increases their mechanical strength. Furthermore, Phanteks welded the fins onto the heatpipes using their patented Cold Plasma Spraying Coating Technology (C.P.S.C.). C.P.S.C. is a soldering technique which literally injects molten solder particles onto the soldering joint and therefore resulting to a much denser connection than one which may be achieved by traditional techniques, thus enhancing the heat transfer rate between the heatpipes and the aluminum fins.

09 Phanteks PH TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

Five massive Φ8mm heatpipes are being used to transfer the heat generated by the CPU to each of the cooler's towers. Naturally, the heatpipes are made out of copper but Phanteks nickel plated them, both for aesthetic and for long-term reliability purposes.

10 Phanteks PH TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

The base of the PH-TC14PE is miniscule considering the massive proportions of the cooler and does little more than serving as a mechanical support point for the installation of the cooler onto a CPU cooler. However, it is worthwhile to mention that the copper bottom half of the nickel plated base, which will be making contact with the CPU, is exceptionally well machined, down to a perfectly smooth finish.

03 Phanteks PH TC14PE CPU Cooler Review

Two 140mm fans are supplied with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler; and not just any fans, as the company supplies two of their PH-F140TS 140mm fans, which are boasting a long list of innovative features. Perhaps the two most important features is the "Maelström Vortex Booster" blade design, which allegedly increases the fan's airflow, and the UFD bearing, an auto-balancing hybrid bearing with exceptional lifetime. Finally, the color of the fan will be similar to the purchased cooler, e.g. a blue version of the cooler will also buy you two PH-F140TS fans with blue blades.
