Philips has teamed up with StarMaker to launch a wireless karaoke microphone and Bluetooth speaker that will work with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Users can dock their iPad into the 30-pin connector on the speaker to amplify sound and wirelessly transmit signals from the microphone, making for a much smaller karaoke kit to bring to parties. Of course, this means it is not compatible with the 8-pin Lightning port of Apple's latest devices, including the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad Mini—that is without an adaptor.

The StarMaker app provides the songs and lyrics, including latest hits and old classics, along with the ability to record performances for sharing online, and a challenge mode for singing simultaneously with a friend, with the app delivering a verdict of best singer based on pitch and timing.

The app can also perform auto-tuning of a user's voice, which might help make some people that little bit more bearable when they get up to sing.

The AEA7100 sells for $179.99. Philips is also planning to release the  AEA3100, which includes a wireless microphone and a Bluetooth receiver, for iOS devices in March, retailing at $99.99.
