PhotoFast has introduced the GBOX mini, a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter.
PhotoFast introduces its new lineup of USB 3.0 accessories, starting with the GBOX mini (3 August 2010).
The most common complaint given by end users is the slow data transfer rates experienced when moving or coping files via an external USB 2.0 portable hard disk drive, or external USB 2.0 adapter. USB 2.0 can only support transfer rates up to about 30MB/sec, which is way lower than the throughput of modern day drives.

The PhotoFast GBOX mini supports USB 3.0, which enables transfer rates of at least 400MB/sec. This transfer rate ceiling is way higher than any mechanical hard disk drive (~100MB/sec) or even solid state drive (~300MB/sec) in the market. As such, by using the GBOX mini, users can expect maximum throughput between their drives and much shorter waiting times for file transfers to complete.
PhotoFast has focused on its device’s portability and quick access. Instead of making external USB 3.0 enclosures, PhotoFast opted for an external adapter instead, giving users the freedom of connecting mechanical hard disk drives or solid state drives of any physical size, as long as it is of SATA interface.
A USB 3.0 port needs to be able to supply up to 900mA of power, which you might not be able to get if you are using a ExpressCard-to-USB3 notebook adapter. PhotoFast has included a split cable (Y-cable), allowing you to connect the extra plug to any available USB port on your machine in case your primary port does not have enough juice.
