Be honest, when’s the last time you saw a solid Android tablet dropping from China with a budget-conscious price point? And by “solid”, I don’t mean your usual low-cost, low-end gadgets. I mean slates with character, personality, heat under their hoods and crisp displays.

It’s been a while, right? Well, if it has, it’s probably time for you to meet the Pipo M7Pro. This thing has been first made official a couple of months back and is now returning to the spotlight in order to finally make its commercial debut.

The launch date has been set for July 20, while the recommended retail price is $240. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. What may be unusual is the Pipo M7Pro comes with a stunning 8.9-inch Full HD screen in tow. Now that’s not exactly run-of-the-mill for a tab with a below $250 price point, am I right?

There’s also a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor inside the M7 Pro, though a fair warning before getting too excited – we’re not talking about a Snapdragon 600 chip here or anything really fancy or new. Instead, the CPU is a Rockchip RK3188. That’s ARM Cortex A9-based, so not exactly high-end, but not entry-level either.

Most of the other features are high-end however, so all in all this Pipo M7Pro has wicked bang for the buck. You get 2 gigs of RAM, a decent 16 GB of on-board storage, microSD support, a 5 MP shooter slapped on the back, 2 MP cam on the front, Wi-Fi, GPS, HDMI and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Bluetooth absence is a little weird and might be a bit of a downside, but it’s not exactly a massive deal-breaker. In terms of design, you can’t argue with the tab’s appeal right off the bat, even if it’s not the thinnest in the world, the most elegant or the classiest in regards to build materials.

Remember, July 20 is D-Day, with pre-orders already live on sites like GeekBuying. Are you in or are you out?
