Polaroid, a well-known brand in the photography and film industry, will show off its $1,000 50-inch 4K TV at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Polaroid filed for bankruptcy in 2001, and since then we’ve been seeing gadgets that range from Android tablets to digital cameras with the brand slapped all over them.  The Polaroid 4K set isn’t any different as the TV is actually manufactured by Empire Electronics, a company that paid Polaroid to license out the brand.

Empire Electronics plans on launching the 4K TV line with display sizes ranging from 32 to 69-inches.  The MSRP for the 50-inch 4K TV is $1,000, so one can expect to tag on or shave off a few hundred for displays that are larger or smaller.

A few off-brand set makers have already been launched 4K TVs for under $1,000, and that trend should continue throughout 2014.  Brands such as Sony and Samsung, however, will likely keep prices of their 4K TVs relatively high compared to their lesser-known competitions.

Despite the lack of content to support 4K TVs/displays, the technology is gaining in steam.  A few content distributors have signaled that they intend to release ultra high definition content via their various networks.  For the time being, 4K tech are still for the early adopters and enthusiasts.
