Imagination plans to support the OpenGL ES application programming interface proposed by the Khronos industry group for mobile applications, on its PowerVR MBX and MBX Lite graphics cores. PowerVR MBX and PowerVR MBX Lite have already enjoyed some success in the market for graphics on PDAs and mobile phones having been used by STMicroelectronics amongst others, but it is not clear whether the cores inherently support OpenGL ES or needed to be upgraded. Early in the week ATI was already sampling an OpenGL ES compatible graphics chip.
