PROLiNK Glee TA-009 Netbook

Our standard benchmark tests for mini notebooks/netbooks include FutureMark PCMark05 that measures the overall system performance, and FutureMark 3DMark05 and Unreal Tournament 2004 to test the graphics and gaming capability. PCMark05 is set to run at the standard 1024×768 resolution (which we have to output the video to an external monitor), while we ran 3DMark05 at 640×480 and 800×600 resolutions. For Unreal Tournament 2004, we used UMark and ‘DM-Inferno’ map at 1024×768 resolution at both High Performance (HP) and High Image Quality (HIQ) settings.

And besides the performance tests, we also tested the system’s battery life with Battery Eater’05 Pro v2.70.

Note that the benchmark application and game settings are the same as the ones we used in the earlier mini notebook/netbook roundup for comparison purposes, though the only difference is this netbook is preinstalled with the Windows 7 RC 1 instead of Windows XP.

On FutureMark PCMark’05, the PROLiNK scored an overall 1407 points which is on par with most of the mini notebooks/netbooks in the market today.

The Glee TA-009 only managed 282 and 280 points for FutureMark 3DMark05 running at 640×480 and 800×600 resolutions respectively. The results are slightly higher than the other mini notebooks/netbooks in our roundup in May, but that is still not good enough for a seamless gaming experience especially with the latest 3D games.

Moving on to Unreal Tournament 2004, the PROLiNK showed 19.29 fps on “High Performance” settings, and 9.34 fps on “High Image Quality” settings which are lower than the other mini notebooks/netbooks we tested previously; most of the mini notebooks/netbooks scored above 20fps on “High Performance” and above 13fps on “High Image Quality”.

Nevertheless, this only indicates that netbooks are not powerful enough for graphics-intensive gaming, but general applications and surfing the web.

Battery life only lasted 1hr 41min 37sec on the BatteryEater’05 tests, which is expected as the Glee TA-009 is only equipped with a 3-cell Lithium-ion battery. Thankfully, the manufacturer does provide the 6-cell option in case you want.
