BBC News has reported that the PS3 has been unlocked by George Hortz, a US hacker well-known for hacking the iPhone when he was a teenager.
According to him, the hack allowed users to run pirated games or homemade software on the PS3, and took him five weeks to unlock. For those who do not know, the PS3 is the only games console on the market that could not be hacked…until today. Hortz has indicated that once he has refined the technique, he will be publishing details online, similar to “his previous iPhone exploits”. Certainly an interesting piece of news so folks, stay tuned for updates!
"It's (PlayStation 3) supposed to be unhackable - but nothing is unhackable," Mr Hotz told BBC News. "I can now do whatever I want with the system. It's like I've got an awesome new power - I'm just not sure how to wield it."
