There have already been a lot of rumors about a thinner and lighter iPad 5. It is also expected to borrow design elements from the iPad mini. Alleged parts of the iPad 5 that have leaked up till now also hint at this possibility. These schematics are reportedly being used by case manufacturers to get their products ready, prior to Apple’s unveiling of the new tablet. Rumor has it that Apple will conduct a media event next month in which it will unveil the next generation iPad.

It was rumored back in December first that Apple’s next tablet would be thinner and lighter than its predecessor. As per the schematics, the iPad 5 will measure 169.48 millimeters wide, that’s over 15 millimeters thinner than the current iPad. Height has been shaved off as well from 241.3 millimeters to 240 millimeters. The next iPad is expected to be a full 2 millimeters thinner than the existing model, coming in at just 7.5 millimeters instead of 9.55 millimeters.

Nevertheless, there’s no way to say for sure at this point in time if the next iPad will end up having the exact same dimensions as mentioned in these schematics. Apple hasn’t said anything about its upcoming tablet as yet, but there have been a lot of leaks over the last few months. With the release timeframe fast approaching, we’re bound to hear a whole lot of iPad 5 rumors in the coming days.
