Qualcomm confirms the Snapdragon 821 SoC for the OnePlus 3T

Qualcomm confirms the Snapdragon 821 SoC for the OnePlus 3T

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset for smartphones is set to be the main flagship SoC in the Android market in the coming months, with a few devices already powered by the improved version of the Snapdragon 820. Google’s Pixel phones have the Snapdragon 821 inside, and OnePlus has been rumored to be using the chipset in the upcoming OnePlus 3T. While OnePlus is yet to confirm any of the OnePlus 3T’s specs, Qualcomm has jumped the gun and confirmed that the handset will feature the Snapdragon 821.

For those unaware, the Snapdragon 821 improves slightly over the Snapdragon 820, with increased performance with higher clock speeds but more importantly, improved power efficiency. The OnePlus 3T is likely to benefit from the improvements when compared to the regular OnePlus 3, and the handset is also expected to come with other upgrades. These include a larger battery (3,300 mAh vs 3,000 mAh on the original OnePlus 3) and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The device will retain the 6GB of RAM that was offered on its predecessor, although it remains to be seen if OnePlus will disable the limitations it had put on the OnePlus 3 when it came to actually using all that memory.

Other specs are expected to remain the same, including a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, 64GB and 128GB storage variants, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The OnePlus 3T is expected to be announced on November 14th – the date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Qualcomm’s reveal means the unveiling of the OnePlus 3T shouldn’t be far away.
