Radeon HD 6850/6870 Cards Listed in E-tail

Dutch e-tailer Informatique.nl had accidentally jumped the gun, listing the yet unannounced Radeon HD 6800 series cards for preorder. The price for the Radeon HD 6850 is €189 and the Radeon HD 6870 is €255. Both are reference designs and the prices include all of the hefty EU taxes. These prices indicate US retail prices of ~$200 for the Radeon HD 6850 and ~$250 for the Radeon HD 6870 (possibly lesser once the initial release dust settles and supply evens out).

the yet unannounced Radeon HD 6800 series cards for preorder. The price
for the Radeon HD 6850 is €189 and the Radeon HD 6870 is €255. Both are

Radeon HD 6850 and ~$250 for the Radeon HD 6870 (possibly lesser once

This puts the Radeon HD 6850 right in between the GTX 460 768 MB and GTX 460 1 GB. Leaked performance benchmarks indicate the Radeon HD 6850 well outperforming the more expensive GTX 460, at least in 3DMark. The Radeon HD 6870 ends up at $250, above the GTX 460 1 GB and right on par with the Radeon HD 5850. The HD 6870 is expected to perform somewhere between the HD 5850 and the HD 5870, or close to the $300 GTX 470. Overall, AMD is being relatively aggressive, but nothing as fierce as Nvidia’s GTX 460 attack. The GTX 460 768 MB will continue to exploit the $165 spot, until a Radeon HD 6830 drops.

At this stage, it is hard to judge the value-for-money proposition compared to the GTX 460/470 cards, without detailed benchmarks. It is clear, however, that AMD is bringing the x8xx series back to the ~$200-~$300 sweet spots – much like the HD 3800 and HD 4800 series.

The listings are available here and here.
