Record Labels Claim Limewire Liable For $75 Trillion in Damages

Judge Wood probably checked his calendar to see if what he just heard was an April fools' day joke before calling the claim "beyond absurd". The 13 record companies currently suing peer-to-peer filesharing service Limewire have estimated...

...that the company owes them between $400 billion and $75 trillion USD, which converts to about 94.65 trillion SGD, a sum higher than the estimated GDP of the entire planet!

"As defendants note, plaintiffs are suggesting an award that is 'more money than the entire music recording industry has made since Edison's invention of the phonograph in 1877'," she wrote.
