Replacement MacBook batteries at risk of catching fire, Best Buy issuing a recall

Best Buy is recalling several thousand MacBook battery replacements that are at risk of catching on fire.

MacBooks with the designated battery labels “MC-MBOOK13B” (black battery) and “MC-BOOK13W” (white battery) are at risk.  The above mentioned ATG lithium-ion (third-party replacement) batteries should immediately be taken out and replaced.  There have been 13 incidents where the battery caught on fire, with one incident of major burn to a user’s leg.

People who purchased the battery through Best Buy between September 2008 and June 2012 are eligible for alternative replacements or a Best Buy gift card.

The ATG batteries were also sold at other outlets, but it is currently unknown at the moment whether or not they will conduct similar recalls.
