Report: AMD FX release date and prices

Earlier this month, shopblt.com jumped the gun and listed AMD FX CPUs for pre-orders (the listing has since been pulled) giving us an idea of prices for the first FX CPUs. DonanimHaber now reports prices for the same three SKUs. The top FX-8150 will purportedly retail for $245, FX-8120 at $205 and FX-6100 at $175. These three CPUs are set to release on October 12th.

This pegs the FX-8150 somewhere between Core i5 2500K and Core i7 2600K. However, with the Core i7 2700K incoming, the Core i7 2600K might just drop in price to compete with FX-8150. The FX-8120 will directly compete with Core i5 2500(K), while the FX-6100 will directly replace the Phenom II X6 1100T – which features the same number of cores at an identical clock speed – and take on the recently released Core i5 2320.

Quad-core FX-4100 series CPUs are expected to release later in the year, with a family-wide refresh (rumoured to be with a new stepping) expected in Q1 2012. Featuring high clocks and reasonable prices, FX-4100 series could be an interesting choice for gamers on a budget.
