Digitimes is reporting that AMD is now preparing to announce its latest
generation, the Radeon HD 6000 series, on October 19th. This date is not
a release date, but a press conference officially announcing the Radeon
HD 6000 series. Widespread availability is expected to follow, as
previously rumoured, in late October / early November. While Digitimes
did not reveal which card releases first, Radeon HD 6870 was mentioned
to be a possibility.

The conference will take place at the AMD Technical Forum and Exhibition 2010 at Taipei, and the Radeon HD 6000 series announcement is expected to take centrestage.

October 19th will see more action in the GPU world, with the launch of Nvidia’s latest Fermi GPU – GF108 – branded GeForce GT 430. Yet another price drop to the GeForce GTX 460 768MB is rumoured, which is already available at a bargain $170.

We are just over two weeks away from the announcement, and precious little is known (for certain) about the Radeon HD 6000 series, which has been successfully veiled in secrecy. While the rumour mill continues grinding at a breakneck pace, details and leaks are often contradictory, and very few of the details have been confirmed. Hopefully, confirmed details will start to surface next week as we build up to the announcement.
