Report: AMD re-allocates Radeon HD 6950/6970 Mix

Reported by on Saturday, December 4 2010 1:38 pm

The latest reports from SemiAccurate suggests that AMD is shifting some of the allocation of HD 6950s to HD 6970s. I.e. less HD 6950s will be supplied than initially planned, and more HD 6970s. Unlike most other supply "problems", it is hinted that this late change is actually due to better than anticipated yields, resulting in more functioning chips for the top bin, i.e. HD 6970. In addition, rumours suggest that there might be slight delays in shipment for the HD 6950, probably due to eleventh hour BIOS tweaks.

At this stage, no hardware problems are reported, and the yields are hinted to be healthy. However, judging by the spotty availability and rising prices for the HD 6800 series more than a month after release, we will have to wait and see if the Radeon HD 6900 series supply meets demand.
