The successor to AMD's Brazos platform - Deccan - has been reportedly canceled. Codenamed Wichita and Krishna APUs were set to succeed Zacate (E-Series) and Ontario (C-Series) respectively. Last month, news about the Brazos 2.0 refresh was leaked fueling doubts regarding the future of Wichita and Krishna, so this move was not entirely unexpected. 

Wichita and Krishna were set to be fabbed at 28nm. SemiAccurate suggests the cancelation is due to the delay of Globalfoundries' 28nm process. However, previous rumours suggested these APUs might be fabbed at TSMC, just like Brazos platform APUs, and they would be ready with 28nm Bulk before Globalfoundries.

Whatever the reason, Brazos 2.0 will now have to hold ground till the Kerala platform - or an evolution of it - arrives, previously expected in 2013. Hopefully, with Deccan platform out of the way, AMD will be able to pull in Kerala - which includes Kabini APUs - to meet closer to the much anticipated Windows 8 release. No doubt the Kerala platform will power a wide range of ultraportable devices from tablets to low affordable ultrabooks (or high end netbooks). It is clear that AMD's new CEO Rory Read is serious about mobile devices, and the successor to Brazos 2.0 will be crucial to AMD's future plans.
