Multiple retailers have listed a June release date for The Last of Us: Remastered, giving hints on the PS4 title’s availability.
The Last of Us remains one of the most celebrated and acclaimed games within recent history, garnering considerable high-scores and buzz throughout the gaming realm. The game earned Naughty Dog even more prestige, and served as a massive incentive boost for the PS3 as a whole–but also left PS4 owners out in the cold.
This all changed when Sony announced The Last of Us: Remastered, giving Sony’s next-gen gamers a chance to experience the award-winning drama for themselves.
There hasn’t been much news on the subject since it was announced a bit ago, however some online retailers have listed specific release dates for the PS4 iteration–which may or may not indicate how soon we can expect the game’s release.
Both Target and Best Buy have active listings for The Last of Us: Remastered that pin the game for a June 20, 2014 release date. Interestingly enough, GameFly‘s listing mentions a later Dec. 31 release, however this may just be a placeholder.
In any case, we still aren’t sure when exactly Naughty Dog’s PS4-ready title will be available to the gaming world, and at this time we can’t 100% confirm a June 20 release. There are a few likely scenarios that give more credence to the Summer release window, as it’s assumed that The Last of Us: Remastered will hit after this year’s E3 Expo with the possibility of matching last year’s PS3 release.
The upcoming PS4 version of the game will feature expanded graphics and performance, running at 1080p at 60 frames-per-second. Other visual upgrades include improved lighting and shadow as well as higher-end character resolutions, however the game’s story arc and mechanics will all be the same.
We’ll likely see more updates as E3 2014 nears, with the possibility of a confirmed release date at the expo itself. As of right now, The Last of Us: Remastered is available for pre-order via multiple retailers for $59.99.
