SimCity is back, and with a disasterous launch and a lot of feature changes, one question remains: Is it zoned for success, or is it a crack-den waiting to be demolished?


It’s difficult for a game (or anything, in fact) to pull off being simultaneously really good and really bad, but SimCity has managed. This of course, comes as no surprise to anyone, as the loud and massive outcry from fans has made SimCity’s launch into the year’s worst gaming fiasco. So what did Maxis do wrong? Well, they created a fantastic game, and then ruined it with one simple hyphenated word: “online-only”. The people at Maxis, while not busy avoiding the bricks flying through their windows, have actually created a very good game, but the framework in which that game exists means it will never live up to its potential.
