Hamburg-based ROCCAT Studios is looking to capture a key entry-level price-point with its newest mouse, the ROCCAT Lua. The ambidextrous mouse is outfitted with Pro Optic R2 sensor, three buttons, and a groovy illuminated logo. The Lua, according to its makers, is "The Classic 3-Button Mouse: Re-Mastered."

Gamers often find themselves content with just a good gaming-grade 3-button mouse, without fancy macro buttons, or adjustable weights. The same demographic also includes those who are new to the PC gaming platform, and don't want to be scared away with expensive peripherals. For them, Hamburg Germany-based ROCCAT Studios has a groovy new mouse, the ROCCAT Lua. The company released some of the first pictures of the entry-level mouse.

The ROCCAT Lua is an ambidextrous (symmetrical, can be used by both lefties and righties) 3-button gaming mouse. Its two main buttons are separated by a scroll-wheel with middle button, and a tracking resolution adjustment button. Speaking of which, the mouse packs a Pro Optic R2 sensor, with a maximum tracking resolution of 2,000 DPI. The switch allows gamers to adjust it in steps of 250 DPI, from 250 DPI, all the way up to 2,000 DPI. The switches backing the two buttons are said to be extremely durable, and made by Omron; while the scroll-wheel is designed to have locking incremental steps, instead of smooth turning. While it ensures that you select the right weapon in the middle of a game (by preventing over-scrolling), scrolling through long web-pages or documents could get cumbersome.

The ROCCAT Lua features an  ambidextrous V-shaped design, with thumb-rests on either side. This allows both palm and claw grips, using either hands. The company did not give out details such as dimensions and weight, but we feel the Lua is a mid-sized mouse that's as big as Razer Salmosa. ROCCAT mentioned choosing top-tier materials in the construction of the Lua. While the brand names "ROCCAT" and "Lua" are etched into the surface of the mouse, the company logo is illuminated arctic blue, with a soft "breathing effect" to its glow.

"We took the beloved three-button mouse design and injected it with our innovative gaming engineering – and created a killer tool that gives props to the past while heading boldly into the future," said René Korte, ROCCAT Founder and CEO. "The Lua delivers everything gamers need for control, comfort and style – all in a sleek and slim design that offers perfect comfort for every hand," he added.

The ROCCAT Lua will be released to the market worldwide, towards the end of July or early August. It is targeting a price point of US $29.99 (SG $38.7).
