Rockstar has just launched Life Invader, a viral website that directly mocks social media websites like Facebook and Google+. The results are often hilarious and zany, reflecting Rockstar’s signature wit quite well.

The site calls for users to sign in with their Rockstar Social Club credentials. The Social Club is the studio’s main hub that serves a number of community and social functions, including crew memberships, tracking friends and linking the account to your online gamertag to name a few.

Rather than “liking” products, Life Invader allows users to “stalk” various profiles and products on the website including the soft-drink Sprunk–and obvious parody of Sprite–, the customized cars of Los Santos Customs, and even GTA V‘s premiere brand of cancer sticks Redwood Cigarettes.

The site itself is very colorful and introduces fans to the variety of satirical advertisements that will be featured prominently in Grand Theft Auto V, and like everything else about the game Rockstar has gone into surprising detail with Life Invader.

While navigating the site, users will find that each profile page has witty banter that pokes fun at the kinds of sponsored adverts that you’d see on Facebook. The pages all have their own photo galleries that display some sort of in-game examples of the product.

Los Santos Customs and Legendary Motorsport have alluring picture galleries that showcase exotic sportscars like the new Cheetah or Enus Cognoscenti Cabrio to name a few. Oh and don’t forget to stalk Warstock Cache & Carry to build up your arsenal; they have a huge selection of destruction-inducing tanks, attack helicopters and army jeeps. And tanks. Glorious tanks.

Like Rockstar’s interactive travelogue, the viral campaign introduces the game in such a way that’s entertaining and comedic, showcasing vital elements that have been part of the franchise from the start. Rockstar even takes a hit at Apple by mentioning an iFruit phone, which may or may not be featured in the game.

The pages on Life Invader also promise free promotional items for just stalking them, and it will be interesting to see if players actually get some sort of in-game content from this or if its just for fun. Be sure to check the site out for yourself–it’s quite enjoyable and is a great way to view new content for the game, if not create even more anticipation for Rockstar’s juggernaut.
