The poster behind most of the Northern Islands series leaks, including pictures of Barts XT, Napoleon of Chiphell, has revealed rough performance details for both Barts cards. Both cards are ready and running, with the Barts XT outperforming Radeon HD 5850 and Barts PRO outperforming GTX 460 (presumably 1GB version). These are both significant improvements over the existing HD 5770 series and effectively provides a higher class of performance.

The poster behind most of the Northern Islands series leaks, including pictures of Barts XT,
Napoleon of Chiphell, has revealed rough performance details for both
Barts cards. Both cards are ready and running, with the Barts XT
outperforming Radeon HD 5850 and Barts PRO outperforming GTX 460
(presumably 1GB version). These are both significant improvements over
the existing HD 5770 series and effectively provides a higher class of performance.

Barts features 256-bit memory, twice that of the HD 5700, and in general is likely to be closer to Cayman than 5700 was to 5800. Hence, we can expect higher prices for the HD 6700 series, probably in the $200-$300 range. This is due a restructuring in the HD 6000 family, and this higher price will also be reflected in much superior performance.

Napoleon agrees with several other rumours suggesting a launch event in mid-October, following a release in late October. There are also suggestions that wide availability will only be in November, though this detail could have been lost in translation.

The HD 6770, then, will be a likely competitor to the GTX 470, with the HD 6750 going up against GTX 460. These are very impressive performance boosts, over 50%, considering where the current HD 5700 series is. However, let’s hope the pricing does not increase disproportionately.
