According to Digitimes' sources among AIBs, AMD is set to release their next Southern Islands GPUs - Radeon HD 7870 and HD 7850 - in the first half of March. NVIDIA will respond to HD 7000 series with GTX 600 series, starting in April.

According to Digitimes' sources among AIBs, AMD is set to release their next Southern Islands GPUs - Radeon HD 7870 and HD 7850 - in the first half of March. NVIDIA will respond to HD 7000 series with GTX 600 series, starting in April.

In addition to Picairn / HD 7800 series, AMD is also preparing to release the flagship New Zealand, Radeon HD 7990. While a firm schedule is not reported by Digitimes, a late March release sounds most likely, rounding out the first wave GCN 28nm GPU launches for the HD 7000 family.

NVIDIA is expect to respond to HD 7000 with three new Kepler chips - GK110, GK104 and GK106 over eight different SKUs including GTX 690, GTX 660 and GTX 640. Surprisingly, Digitimes reports that NVIDIA is releasing all eight models in April - an unprecedented and unlikely release schedule for the GPU industry. However, we should certainly see the first Kepler GPUs around April, most likely GK104. According to latest rumours, GK104 is expected to be radically different from its predecessors and NVIDIA's biggest architectural change since G80 in 2006.
