Samsung and Google unveils GALAXY Nexus, first Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone

The wait for the Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform is finally over. Today, Samsung and Google have jointly announced the GALAXY Nexus, which claims to be the first smartphone running the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system.

Samsung and Google today announced GALAXY Nexus, the world’s first smartphone running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich; the latest release of the Android platform. The GALAXY Nexus sports a 4.65-inch high definition Super AMOLED display that supports 720p resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel, with a redesigned user interface. It also offers improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and full web browsing experience. The Samsung GALAXY Nexus features software navigation buttons, which is a first for Android smartphones. The lock screen, home screen, phone app, and everything inbetween has been rethought and redesigned to make Android simple, beautiful, and useful.
 
Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People app, which lets you, browse friends, family, and coworkers, see their photos in high-resolution, and check their latest status updates from Google+ and other social networks. GALAXY Nexus features a camera which can shoot panorama pictures, do 1080p HD video capture, has zero-shutter lag, and offers various picture effects like silly faces and background replacement. On top of that, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich also offers Face Unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock your phone, and NFC technology that lets you share web pages, apps, and YouTube videos with your friends by simply tapping your phones together. The Samsung GALAXY Nexus also supports LTE and HSPA+ connectivity for high-speed web browsing wherever you are.
 
The Samsung GALAXY Nexus will be available in the U.S., Europe, and Asia beginning in November and gradually rolled out to other global markets.
