Dual SIM smartphones have had something of a slow start and we have yet to see a decent high-end model for the business traveller that doesn't want to spend a fortune on roaming fees. Dual SIM smartphones have had something of a slow start and we have yet to see a decent high-end model for the business traveller that doesn't want to spend a fortune on roaming fees. Samsung's new Galaxy Ace DUOS in unlikely to attract many business users, but the new Android 2.3 handset does at least appear to be a decent budget option.

Unlike its predecessor with the same name, the new Galaxy Ace DUOS is a dual SIM GSM model, whereas the old model was a CDMA/GSM device, although the two handsets do at least look slightly different. The Galaxy Ace DUOS comes with an unspecified 832MHz processor, potentially a Qualcomm chip just as its CDMA/GSM sibling; 512MB of RAM, 3GB of built in storage and a microSD card slot.

It does of course also come with features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, a 5Megapixel camera and what not, but the 3.5-inch 480×320 resolution display isn't likely to impress, even at a budget level. It also sports HSDPA speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, although we're not sure if this is only supported by one SIM or both. It does at least have a fairly unique feature in as much as it's possible to receive a call on both SIM cards simultaneously or what Samsung calls "Dual SIM always on" which might come in handy for those getting a lot of calls.

The battery is rated at a mere 1,300mAh and with Android 2.3 this is clearly not a cutting edge handset. No word on pricing as yet, but it should at least end up in the affordable section. Samsung will start shipping the Galaxy Ace DUOS in Russia next month and then roll it out into the rest of the world after that.
