It’s been a long time coming and it’s basically been an open book for the past few weeks, but I have to confess, I’m shocked to see it made official today. It’s the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, ladies and gents, the device everyone expected to headline Sammy’s “Premiere” London event on June 20.
Instead of making a big fuss about this thing, Samsung decided to keep the official announcement simple and modest and… issued a press release. How bizarre, eh?
Oh, well, at least this wraps up the crazy rumor bonanza of the last month or so. Now, what’s S4 Mini’s deal after all? No surprises there, as the 4.3-incher looks just as it did in all those “leaked” pictures – petite (by today’s standards), elegant and slim, but just a tad less sexier than big bro.
The spec sheet provides no major shocker either, so here it is in its entirety:
- 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels resolution) Super AMOLED display
- Dual-core 1.7 GHz processor
- 1.5 GB of RAM
- 8 GB of internal memory (5 GB user-accessible)
- MicroSD support for expanding the storage with up to 64 GB
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- 8 MP rear-facing camera
- 1.9 MP front cam
- 1,900 mAh battery
- Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, 4G LTE, IR LED
- Optional dual-SIM
- 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.94 mm dimensions
- 107 grams weight
Unfortunately, the CPU’s exact make and model haven’t been revealed yet, so we still have one more mystery to solve regarding the Galaxy S4 Mini. Chances are the 1.7 GHz processor will be one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 units, but only time will tell if the rumors were spot-on all the way through.
Aside from that, the only other questions that need answers are the pricing and exact release date, but we’re unlikely to hear anything on those two fronts before June 20. Color choices are fairly standard –black and white – whereas the dual-SIM support will only be paired with 3G speeds in some emerging markets.
That’s about everything there is to report about the Galaxy S4 Mini, so now it’s HTC’s ball. What do you guys think, can the M4, aka One Mini, give this fellow a run for its money? And does this announcement mean S4 Zoom and Active’s formal intros are imminent as well?
