If you've been looking for a stylish, yet high-end display, then maybe Samsung has what you've been waiting for in its new Premium Smart Monitor 970, also known as the S27B970 LED monitor. This 27-inch display sports a lot more style than your average PC monitor, although it's not exactly what we'd call cheap.

The display sports a WQHD (2560×1440) resolution Super PLS (Plane to Line Switching) panel which is said to feature integrated hardware colour calibration. The panel has a brightness of 300cd/m2 and a static contrast ratio of 1,000:1. Sadly both the screen and bezel is said to be glossy, not something you really want from a computer monitor and part of this reason is said to be due to a tempered sheet of glass sitting in front of the actual display. At least the panel features some height adjustment, albeit a mere 10cm which isn't a lot and there's apparently no swivel which is very strange on a large screen like this.

Connectivity consists of a DisplayPort, an HDMI port and a dual-link DVI port, as well as a USB port which in turn is connected to a two port USB hub which is located on the right hand side of the display. The HDMI port is also MHL compatible, which in theory should allow for easy connectivity of various smartphones and tablets as soon as the correct cables become available. The display also sports a pair of 3.5W stereo speakers (7W in total), but we doubt these will offer much in terms of quality audio.

At an expected retail price of US$1,199 (S$1,535) the S27B970 is anything but cheap, although the word premium in the alternative model name kind of gave this away. The display is expected to hit retail next month.
