Samsung owns more patents in US than in Korea
Samsung owns more patents in the U.S. than it does domestically, according to a report.
Since 2009, Samsung has completely shifted its patent management to the U.S., with the majority of the patents now being filed for and obtained on U.S. soil.

“The onset of overseas patent disputes somewhat pushed Samsung into raising the share of its overseas patents in the total patent pool,” said a Samsung official.
Samsung has obtained between 3,611 to 5,081 US patents since 2009, as compared to the 1,485 to 2,013 patents obtained in Korea.
Experts expect other Korean firms to likely follow suit as they expand further into much more competitive markets.
