Samsung will announce a new service called TV Discovery at this year's Mobile World Congress, making it easier and faster to find content on smartphones and smart TVs.

The service simplifies searching for content by integrating and relaying real-time programme information from multiple sources, including live TV, video-on-demand, and online services like YouTube. Some content providers that will be aggregated in the initial lineup include Netflix and Blockbuster in the US, and Acetrax, Wuaki, MovieMax, Chili, Pathé, and SF Anytime in Europe.

It will also offer personal recommendations based on users' viewing habits, and it can project content from a smartphone or tablet to a TV, or vice-versa. Users can also share what they are watching with their family and friends.

TV Discovery will be available for Samsung Smart TVs and supported mobile devices. A connected tablet can also be turned into a universal remote control, resulting in a single remote for cable, satellite, home stereo, DVD players, and Blu-ray players.

“More and more people are starting to expect the same experience from each and every screen they own – whether it’s their smartphone and tablet, TV or camera. TV Discovery is bringing that demand ever closer to becoming a reality, by giving our customers the opportunity to search for and enjoy their favourite TV shows or the latest films wherever they are, whether that’s on the commute into work or sat in their living room,” said Simon Stanford, VP of IM division at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.

The TV Discovery service will launch in the first quarter of this year in the UK for Samsung Smart TVs, and it will be a feature of future mobile devices from the second quarter. Mobile World Congress 2013 will be held in Barcelona from 25-28 February.
