According to Samsung, the PM-840 features a faster MDX triple-core SSD processor based on the ARM micro-architecture, which in combination with Samsung's 20 nm-class toggle-NAND flash, results in random access performance as high as 100,000 IOPS (reads) and 90,000 IOPS (writes). The company, however, did not give out sequential speed figures. Samsung PM-840 will include models addressing most popular capacities, including 256 GB and 512 GB. The drives are built with 7 mm-thick casing, making them Ultrabook-friendly.

“Introduction of Samsung’s 840 SSD series delivers considerable levels of advancements to the notebook user environment," said UnSoo Kim, vice president of Memory brand product marketing team. "As a technology pioneer, Samsung continues to raise the level of performance of SSDs and contribute to the growing global pool of users enjoying the conveniences of high-performance SSDs," he added.

Samsung PM-840 series will be available from mid-October.
