Samsung has added a self-emptying intelligent robot to its home cleaning collection, bringing us closer to a world where manual vacuuming will be a thing of the past.

The NaviBot S is slimmer, lighter and quieter than previous models and also touts a number of improvements to its artificial intelligence, which should make vacuuming a literally efortless task.

The robot will not only automatically return to its charging base when its battery is low, it will also go there to offload the dust and dirt it has collected into a two litre dust bin made into the base. Even better, the robot will remember where in the room it last cleaned and will return there to continue cleaning once it has emptied and charged.

The NaviBot S is only 80mm thin, so it can reach more difficult places, such as under sofas, and it can also detect concentrated areas of dust or debris and will automatically focus on those regions to ensure a better cleaning job.

The robotic maid also comes with 12 obstacle sensors and a small integrated digital camera that helps it map the room and determine the quickest and safest route to its cleaning destination.

Availability and prices vary depending on country and retailer.
