3D Mark 2001 SE is still one of the most popular synthetic benchmarking utilities around, not only because it is the less controversial Futuremark video card benchmark but because it tests Direct X 8 capability, which many of this year’s games will still be based on.

Our 3D Mark 2001 SE scores clearly show the Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro U.E. having a very clear lead over FIC’s Radeon 9800 Pro with about 500 3dmarks at 1024x768x32. Our previous tests showed that FIC’s Radeon 9800 Pro was just as fast as reference design if not faster, so seeing the Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Ultimate Edition beating it out so bad in all the tests is very interesting.
