The Singapore Computer Society (SCS) is proud to organise the
inaugural Splash Awards 2004 SCS Annual IT Creativity Competition for Students.
The theme of the Competition is Information Technology in the Year 2020, and
aims to promote and increase awareness in IT learning among the tertiary
institutes as well as in the junior colleges and the secondary schools. The
Competition is supported by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore
(IDA). And in a first for the SCS, the Competition has brought its Student
Chapters in the three local universities (NTU, NUS and SMU) and five
Polytechnics (NYP, NP, TP, SP, RP) together to try and induce some creative
sparks into the minds of the younger generation of IT-savvy users. The
Competition has garnered the support of the IT industry, including Advanced
Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD); VR-Zone, a computer hardware news and reviews portal;
and ezNetworking Solutions.


Singapore, 5 January 2004 – The Singapore Computer Society (SCS)

learning among the tertiary institutes as well as in the junior colleges and the
secondary schools. The Competition is supported by the Infocomm Development

Mr Gary Tan, Chairperson for the Splash Awards 2004, said, “This is the first
time the SCS Student Chapter is coming together as a whole to organise an IT
Creativity Competition on a national level. It is a reflection of our passion
for IT that the Competition is run by students, for students, and we aim to make
this an annual affair to promote the learning of IT.”

The Competition has garnered the support of the IT industry, including Advanced
Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD); VR Zone, a computer hardware news and reviews portal;
and ezNetworking Solutions. ezNetworking Solutions is hosting the online
presence for the Splash Awards 2004 competition.

Creativity should be rewarded, and attractive sponsored prizes include the grand
prizes of an AMD Athlon 64-based PC, and an AMD Athlon XP-based PC. The 64-bit
AMD Athlon 64 processor delivers a cinematic computing experience, making it the
ideal platform for the budding digital designer or animator.

Winners also stand to win prizes like a Sony Ericsson P900 Smart Phone,
Microsoft XBox, Nokia N-Gage, i-Bead USB Disk MP3 players, and cash vouchers
from Challenger Superstore.

The Competition will be open from 5th January to 5th February 2004 to students
from secondary schools, junior colleges and the tertiary institutions.
Contestants are invited to submit their vision of a digital future in the form
of a poster design, a computer animation, or both.

The Competition Categories are as follows:-
– Digital Poster Design
– Animation Creation

The Competition is open to any individual or group of up to three students in
the following two categories:-
– Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges
– Tertiary Institutions (Polytechnics and Universities)
