Sega is resurrecting some of its old Dreamcast titles by making high-definition versions of the games for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Ben Harborne, Associate Digital Brand Manager of Sega, revealed that the company may be re-releasing two classic Dreamcast games, Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia.

The games are two of the most popular and most often requested, and while Harborne was reluctant to give a firm “yes” or “no” regarding their re-release, it seems increasingly likely that we will see these, and possibly other Dreamcast titles, on Xbox and PlayStation 3 consoles soon enough.

Sega previously confirmed a re-release of the Dreamcast skater title Jet Set Radio for the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Windows for this Summer, suggesting it plans to go through its back catalogue of Dreamcast titles and bring them back from the dead.

The Dreamcast was Sega's last forray into the world of game consoles, releasing in 1998 to stiff competition from Sony's PlayStation 2, Microsoft's Xbox, and Nintendo's GameCube. The system was the first of the sixth generation consoles to launch and contained internet connectivity, but the company could not keep up with the competition and decided to pull the product in 2001.

Since then it has gained a cult status amongst gamers, so it's not surprising to see high demand for re-issues of its popular titles.
