silverstone usb3 1 SilverStone shows off range of USB 3.0 accessories at CeBIT

One area where SilverStone appears to be spending a lot of resources is in PC accessories and no, we're not talking about mice and keyboards etc. but rather about various add-in cards and other interesting little trinkets. At CeBIT the company was showing off some new USB 3.0 host controllers and some internal USB 3.0 card readers that we took a quick look at.

First up we have the EC03-P which is SilverStone's first USB 3.0 cards with the fairly recent Renesas uDP720202 host controller and as with many of its previous cards, this model only features an internal pin header.

The second new model is the EC04 which uses the 4-port TI TUSB7340 host controller and as such the card has two rear ports as well as an internal pin header, ideal for those upgrading a system that lacks USB 3.0 altogether. It's a shame though that SilverStone didn't go with Renesas 4-port host controller as it offers superior performance to the TUSB7340.

Next up we have a fairly basic card reader with only a SATA port – although sadly we missed to get the model name of this one – but it also sports a USB 3.0 port and an eSATA port, again making a good chose for upgraders.

The final product is a more advanced USB 3.0 card reader that handles a wide range of memory card formats, but it also adds a front USB 3.0. These were just some of the accessories on display at SilverStone's booth and the company is apparently working on a PCI Express based external storage solution which we'll try to find out more about closer to launch.
