Sim Lim Sq Walkabout: Week 20, 2008

Previously, we did write a little about the smaller sibling of the Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H, the -DS2H which is of mATX form factor. What we have here today is the full-sized ATX form factor board, labelled the -DS3H.

The GA-MA78G-DS3H has a very clean layout. There shouldn’t be any cable management issues with this board.

This board runs on 4-phase power. A 4-pin ATX12V connector is present instead of the 8-pin found on high-performance models.

Four onboard USB headers for eight workable USB 2.0 ports!

Six SATA connectors for all your storage needs.

Re-designed front panel header connectors on the -DS3H.

DVI outputs are becoming increasingly common on boards that have integrated graphics capabilities, and this is especially so for AMD motherboards. Having DVI outputs captures the attention of enthusiasts looking to build a HTPC system. Outputting to a large LCD has never been easier by simply buying a DVI-to-HDMI display cable, which are readily available.

VGA, DVI and HDMI display options available on the -DS3H.

Another board with digital output capabilities is the ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI. This board runs on the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 chipset, which supports Hybrid SLI technology.

Hybrid SLI technology consists of two main features: GeForce Boost and HybridPower. GeForce Boost ‘turbocharges performance’ of NVIDIA discrete graphics cards, while HybridPower enables low-power mode by using the onboard graphics to display 2D information and only call upon the discrete graphics card when 3D processing power is required.

A simple layout keeps the board looking neat and hassle-free to setup.

Like the -DS3H, we also find six SATA ports on the M3N78-EMH HDMI.

Similar output options to the Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H: VGA, DVI and HDMI.
