SimCity for Mac OS X off to a rocky start, users reporting installation errors, graphical glitches, and general instability
Maxis – the developer of the popular The Sims, and SimCity series of simulation games – just can’t catch a break, it seems. After the controversial launch of SimCity on Windows back in March, the OS X port of the game – released yesterday – is facing some of the same issues. Details after the jump!
Based on reports we’ve seen from the official EA forums, many users are having trouble installing the game. Those that do manage to install the game are coming across issues like the game unceremoniously switching to windowed mode from full-screen mode, graphical glitches on well-equipped Macs, and missing buttons, among other game-breaking errors. Just search for ‘SimCity Mac’ on Twitter to see how it’s paring for customers.
Maxis has reached out to some blogs with the following statement:
There are a small number of players who have encountered issues with SimCity for Mac. Our live team is working individually with our players to resolve their issues and get them into the game as quickly as possible.
For now, we recommend waiting a few days – or weeks, if required – to let Maxis iron out any bugs these “small number of players” are facing. As is the case with the PC version, all major bugs and stability issues will eventually be fixed, leaving behind a fairly enjoyable city simulation game.
