Taipei, Sep. 18, 2003 — Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic products, today announced the world’s first and tiniest wireless LAN chipset SiS162 that supports USB 2.0 as part of its campaign to actively launch its wireless network products. SiS162 is a MAC/baseband chipset that backs up IEEE 802.11b standards. Not only the most compacted (10mmx10mm, 105 LFBGA) of all in the industry, it is also the first in the world that supports USB 2.0, the most popular and extensively applied computer interface. SiS162 has high stability and reliability and is no doubt the optimal solution for wireless networking.
SiS162 supports standard interfaces such as Cardbus, Mini-PCI and PCI, and being the first to back up USB 2.0, a high-speed interface expansively supported by modern computer systems, SiS162 is structured according to most updated specifications. Its comprehensive interface support will face up to consumers’ most challenging requirements. SiS162 adopts hardware circuit layout to effectively reduce the cost of BOM and the area of PCB. Not requiring extra Flash or SRAM, it minimizes the mass and weight of the entire module and becomes the lightest and most compacted wireless chipset. SiS162 can be easily turned into regular external expansion card. It makes notebooks with built-in wireless NIC thinner and smaller. The hardware circuit engine of SiS162 supports 64-/128-bit WEP/WPA encryption coding to provide airtight data security capacity, and the programmable software design helps minimizes the power needed for operation. In addition, SiS162 is expected to meet the requirements of FCC, Wi-Fi and WHQL. SiS162 works well with RF/PA hardware, such as Airoha, GCT+Winspring and Maxim, providing for customers most flexible and most beneficial options. It supports both Ad-Hoc and infrastructure networks and allows the clients to enjoy most comprehensive wireless networking backup.
Besides providing NDIS drivers (such as Win9x/ME/2000/XP/NT 4.0), diagnostic programs and EEPROM setup tools for SiS162, SiS also supports Linux, WinCE 4.2, and WinCE .NET environments. To help its clients smoothen the process of mass production, SiS also offers complete testing package, user configuration software, onsite inspection tools and specific customize software to fulfill the client’s greatest demanding. SiS162 indeed has the best supporting services in the industry.
“The introduction of SiS162 says much about the determination of SiS to serve the wireless network market,” explained Michael Chen, president and CEO of SiS. “It will surely become the major solution for relevant functional needs, providing optimal backup services and as the ultimate choice helping clients enhance product competitiveness.”
SiS162 samples are expected to be available in the third quarter, and mass production is expected to start in the fourth quarter. For more product information, please visit < a href="http://www.sis.com/products/connectivity/162.htm">http://www.sis.com/products/connectivity/162.htm
