SK Hynix has officially launched its client side 2.5’’ SSD boasting SATA III features, 128 GB or 256 GB options, and TRIM. 

The newly released high performance SSD will have a max read speed of 510Mbps (random, 55K IOPS max) and max write speed of 470Mbps (random, 85K IOPS max).  However, perhaps what makes Hynix's SDD stands out from the rest is that the drive has ONFI synchronous NANDs built on 20nm processes.

“In order to satisfy high standard requirements from customers who are willing to enjoy significantly improved performance of their PCs, SK Hynix has released the high-end SSD products with our high performance NAND Flash,” says Ji Bum Kim, head of SK Hynix Worldwide Marketing & Sales Division.

 SK Hynix’s client side SSDs are already released in Japan and company spokesperson says that Korean and U.S. markets are next on the company’s agenda.

The packaging definitely seems fancy and “high-end”, but will the NANDs hold up and keep up with competitors?  Check out SK Hynix’s SDD site for full specs and info.

Since some of you may wonder what the controller is for the Hynix line of SSDs, it may be using the LAMD LM87800 controller.  The controller is not listed under the specs section, but the LAMD acquisition suggests that Hynix is using a LAMD controller–officially or not.

SK hynix Inc. (‘SK hynix’ or ‘the Company’) announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire California-based storage solution company Link_A_Media Devices Corporation (‘LAMD’). The role of the NAND controller in premium products such as e-MMC (embedded Multi Media Card) and SSDs (Solid State Drives) has become increasingly important to meet the high memory densities and improved interface speeds required by end users.
